Sound and Music can be powerful in the transformational process. While we don't run a specific sound healing module at Holistic Holidays there are several opportunities to benefit from sound within our current holiday schedule.

Firstly the power of sound healing is hugely amplified by our ability to be in the "here and now" in your awareness. Yoga and other therapies assist this greatly, as we learn to allow the mind to release its dominance of the awareness system. As in breath , there is a totally different threshold of power, once the awareness is truly in "the present". This slot in the "now" facilitates a subtle, yet powerful, working of sound and breath within our inner zones. You would have to experience this, as the mind is likely to be dismissive of the notion!

Examples of sound and music healing in our holidays

In yoga, you will have the opportunity to express sounds in conjunction with the breath and stretching.

In the relaxation period at the end of the yoga class, inspirational music is played. With a calmer countenance the sound of music brings about a deeper state of relaxation and release.

In the transformational breath session you may feel the opportunity to release energy that has come to the fore by various means including the expression of sound. It can happen quite naturally within the process.

As your inner state becomes more "connected" you may find that your sensual awareness is heightened with a greater appreciation of taste, scenery and music, amongst others. There is plenty of opportunity to take private time in a niche, such as the hammock zone or at unspoilt beauty spots to "be" with music on personal sound systems rather than merely being a witness to its presence!

How we perceive things is a function of our own state. If we gaze at and absorb beautiful views, our inner space is lightened. This in turn can alter the way we perceive music, for example. It's as though the scenery generates the music or it sometimes feels as though it emanates from within one's being. There can be a euphoric effect and an insight into how we stifle our ability to be uplifted!

We have several musical instruments, particularly the synthesiser keyboard with headphones. As in the case of the art class, we experience frequent cases of people being pleasantly surprised at how, without music training or reaching back into earlier times, they can generate sounds and music which exceed the expectation of their own creativity. This is another example of being aware of background mental processes that affect our esteem and capability. Just by participating and expressing your own sound generation can have a profound effect on the way you view yourself! How often we hear, Oh I'm not musical, I can't play, I'm not artistic. You should see the turn-arounds that we see!

There are spontaneous musical sessions where people play and sing together often with deep satisfaction for all concerned. We do, however suggest use of headphones for keyboard players while they practice. This in itself is an advantage over the piano whereby you can be sure no-one hears you unless you allow!

Natural sound also has a place. Listening to the sound of crashing waves has a transformative effect. Imagine the quietness of meditating inside a volcanic crater where all external sound is excluded. The sound of a falcon nesting in the volcano, against a background of total silence is a magical moment. As we practice our yoga, in the grass circles for example, the awareness is supported by the rustling of palm tree leaves in the morning breeze. It is then you know that you have escaped
